Sports Hall Development

The final phase of St Mary's School's Vision for Sport is to extend the Sports Centre.
This large indoor space will enable us to broaden the range of sporting opportunities for both
members and pupils of St Mary’s and St Margaret’s.

The Sports Complex will include:

  • A sports hall (34.7m x 20m)
  • Enlarged dance studio which can be divided into two smaller spaces
  • Dry side changing rooms with showers for visiting teams
  • Family/accessible changing facilities
  • Improved staff facilities

Planning permission has been granted for this build.

   Sporting opportunities:

A large sports hall would provide endless options    for a variety of activities including:

      o    badminton (4 courts)
o    indoor netball, tennis and hockey
      o    5 a side football
      o    cricket nets
      o    volleyball
      o    basketball
      o    gymnastics
      o    trampolining

- Four dividing sections will mean that we can timetable more than one user in the sports hall.

- The enlargement of the existing dance studio will enable us to offer fitness classes to a larger audience, meaning less people on waiting lists.

- Two dry side changing rooms with showers will be built for the benefit of both the users of the sports hall and visiting sports teams.

- The multi-purpose room could be used for fitness classes, meetings or simply as a viewing gallery over the sports hall.

Deep Tissue Massage

St Mary’s School Sports Centre welcomes Abigail Handley as our in house Deep Tissue Massage Therapist for the benefit of our members, associated clubs and the local community.

What is Deep Tissue Massage?

Deep tissue massage is a type of massage therapy that focuses on re-aligning deeper layers of muscles. It is used for chronic aches and pain and contracted areas such as a stiff neck and upper back, lower back pain, leg muscle tightness, and sore shoulders.

Some of the strokes are the same as those used in classic massage therapy, but the movement is slower and the pressure is deeper and concentrated on areas of tension and pain in order to reach the sub-layer of muscles and the fascia (the connective tissue surrounding muscles).

Benefits of Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage usually focuses on a specific problem, such as chronic muscle pain, injury rehabilitation, and the following conditions:

  • Chronic pain
  • Lower back pain
  • Limited mobility
  • Recovery from injuries (e.g. whiplash, falls, sports injury)
  • Repetitive strain injury, such as carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Postural problems
  • Muscle tension in the hamstrings, glutes, IT band, legs, quadriceps, rhomboids, upper back
  • Osteoarthritis pain
  • Sciatica
  • Piriformis syndrome
  • Tennis elbow
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Muscle tension or spasm
  • After a workout or bodybuilding

Integrated into sports training or as a longer term healthcare plan, treatments offer a safe and therapeutic approach to healthcare, also aiding performance. Abi has a variety of clients from sportsmen and women, to those with repetitive strain type injuries to those suffering with stress or postural related concerns.

Abi is available for appointments weekdays, evenings & on weekends. Bookings can be made by calling the Sports Centre reception or Abi directly. See contact details below.
